After getting caught in the midst of Hurricane Joaquin, 12 crew members forced to abandon ship were rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard.
A relayed message came in from Her Majesty’s Coast Guard, who received an Inmarsat satellite message stating that the cargo ship was listing 30 degrees to port and the 12 crew members aboard were preparing to abandon ship, said the Coast Guard in a press release.
They immediately sent the Coast Guard Cutter Northland and a helicopter crew. Additionally, a good Samaritan vessel and member of the Automated Mutual Assistance Vessel Rescue System (AMVER) were dispatched to the location as well.
