Hurricane Newton Wreaks Havoc Near Acapulco, Blamed for 3 Deaths

"Three people have reportedly died from the tropical system now known as Hurricane Newton that made landfall Tuesday on Mexico's Baja Peninsula near the Cabo San Lucas resort area.
"Newton pounding Baja California Sur with hurricane-force winds and heavy rains," the U.S. National Hurricane Center said early Tuesday, noting that the storm was packing 90 mph winds and the eye of the storm was over the town of Cabo San Lucas at the time of the update.
According to the Associated Press, State Tourism Secretary Genaro Ruiz said at least 14,000 tourists remained in Los Cabos and noted that all flights had been canceled late Monday ahead of the storm.
The hurricane reportedly knocked out power in parts of Cabo San Lucas and blew down at least half a dozen palm trees along the coastal boulevard."
