Black ice remains a concern as temps drop overnight

A winter storm hit parts of North Carolina on Monday, accumulating over 14 inches of snow; exceeding their average snowfall for the entire winter season, resulting in school closures. As of Tuesday, Dec. 11, the storm has moved out, but city officials warn residents that driving conditions could be dangerous.

Black ice is a major concern for late Tuesday night (Dec. 11) into Wednesday evening (Dec. 12) and temperatures will fall below freezing around 9 p.m (est) thru approx. 8 a.m Wednesday morning.

Winter Driving Tips suggested:

Black Ice- Avoid accelerating and braking too hard. If you hit the ice, lift slowly off the accelerator and turn in direction of the skid to regain control.

Remove Ice and Snow- Keep your car windows, mirrors and lights clear of snow and ice.

Tire Pressure- Make sure you have adequate tread on your tires and check tire pressure.
