Heavy Rain, Mudslides and Evacuations in California as Winter Storm Diego Gets Started

Occurred 5 days ago- (Dec 6, 2018)

Winter Storm Diego affected parts of California before moving to the southern and eastern states. One fatality was reported, more than 14,000 residents were reported without power, and a Southwest Airlines plane slid off of the runway, crashing its landing gear into a barrier at Hollywood Burbank Airport, no one was reported injured.

Mandatory evacuations were issued for residents of Trabuco Canyon in Orange County California due to a high mudslide risk. A flash flood warning was also issued near the fire burned areas of Woosley, Hill, and Thomas as mudslides forced the closure of the Pacific Coast Highway; including several other roads such as the Malibu Canyon Road, where failling boulders smashed into vehicles.

According to the Orange County Register, cars were submerged under floodwaters in Costa Mesa, CA, where an elderly woman had to be rescued from her car. Several others were reportedly trapped in their vehicles in San Diego as well.
