Winter weather could affect morning commute: National Weather Service
Commuters could face hazardous conditions Wednesday morning.
The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for McHenry County from 3 a.m. to noon Wednesday.
The area is expected to face periods of light snow, sleet or freezing rain that could cause travel difficulties.
The weather service is warning motorists to drive with caution because a fast moving weather system is expected to bring precipitation to much of northern Illinois.
"We're looking at a mix," meteorologist Mark Ratzer said. "Total amount of snow will be an inch or less."
Ratzer said overnight temperatures will be in the upper 20s.
"There is potential for a light glazing," he said, adding that Wednesday will have a high of 34 degrees. "The ground is still cold. ... If we get rain it has the possibility of freezing on the ground."
