Homes, schools destroyed as hail storm wreaks havoc in Zimbabwe

Reported December 7, 2018

Heavy rains caused flash floods in eastern parts of Zimbabwe, destryoing thousands of dollars worth of property.

A hailstorm hit homes, schools, and churches in Checheche, a town approx. 520km south-east of the country's capital, leaving a significant amount of damage; however, no injuries or fatalities were reported.

Tobacco farmers in the area of Odzi were also impacted as the hailstorm ripped through the area, damaging crops.

According to the meteorological Services Department, Zimbabwe is expected to experience another El Nino, just as previously forecasted for the country, with expectations of extreme weather conditions including droughts, high temperatures, strong winds, flash floods and more hailstorms over short periods of time.
