Heavy Rain, Wintry Mess Eyes Southern Plains, Mississippi Valley

After a rather quiet start to the work week, major trouble is brewing for the southern Plains for the second half of the work week.  This potent weather system then threatens the South and Southeast this weekend.

The weather system that is responsible for Wednesday's and today’s rainfall across California will slide into northern Mexico and then the southern Plains later today into Friday.  The combination of this upper-level energy and a water-logged air mass being pulled north from the western Gulf of Mexico will feed into a developing storm system across Texas.
