People across the Hickory area woke up Sunday morning to a winter wonderland thanks to Winter Storm Diego.
As of 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, 8 to 15 inches of snow had been recorded across the foothills, Foothills Weather Network meteorologist Scotty Powell said.
Readers reported 9 inches of snow in Conover as of 9:30 a.m. with similar totals across Hickory. One reader, who lives near the Hickory Regional Airport, reported 16 inches of snow by 11:50 a.m. on Sunday.
Road conditions are treacherous, with law enforcement advising people to stay off the roads. Photos showed Highway 127 in Viewmont completely covered in snow on Sunday morning.
