El nino puts hundreds of homeless Californians in danger

Forecasters say this year’s El Niño promises to be one of the strongest ever, with the potential to unleash a devastating wave of flash floods and mudslides upon drought-stricken California in coming months.
“Very strong El Niños will cause the trough to shift further south with the average storm track position moving into Southern California,” the National Weather Service says. “During these times, rainfall in California can be significantly above normal, leading to numerous occurrences of flash flood and debris flows. With the storm track shifted south, the Pacific Northwest becomes drier and drier as the tropical moisture is shunted south of the region.”
